Hopefully, you’ve read the first part of the Beading for Beginners and you know what type of beads and wire or nylon fishing line to use for different animals. You will learn here how to make the body of the bead animals.
The main animal beading technique is the ‘Back and Forth’ technique. It’s hard to believe that this is the main technique, because it is so simple. Okay, everything is slower and a small bit more difficulty if you want to do it nicely. However, after you have tried and made it a few times it will be just child’s play.
Use this technique to make the body of the bead animals (and sometimes the tail of the animals). After you’ve finished the first row, make the second row by doing the same thing again. In this way, make the rest of the animal’s body.
Let’s get started!
String the beads (usually one, two or three depending on what you are making) on either side of the wire. If you’re beginning a new bead animal string the bead(s) on the center of the wire. Now, loop back with the opposite wire through the beads. If you’re making the first row, then thread one wire around and through the first bead(s)Pull it very tightly. If it is not in the right place (not exactly beside the row before), then bend it until it looks even and lovely.
Now, here is an important point:
if you are making an animal that should be flat, then push the rows beside each other (and use wire). However, if your animal supposed to be round (3D), pull each row very tightly to make them overlap. If it doesn’t help, then simply put the rows right opposite of each other. After that, if you look at your animal from side, then the rows should look zigzagging.
One more thing: do not forget the eyes or any patterns of the animal, use different colors for them.

The next part will explain how to make your animal more lifelike with legs.

There are many ways to make a leg for the animals:
Simple straight legLeg with footLeg with foot and toes
Unfortunately, I can’t put pictures here, so if you want to see illustrated step by step guideline please click here!
An Important Tip:when you’re making a leg: hold the leg as near as you can to the body when you pull it tightly.
Simple straight leg
This is the most simple technique to make legs.
String the leg beads on one side of the wire.Loop back with the same wire through the leg leaving out the last bead. Try to avoid kinks on the wire.Hold the leg to the body as near as you can. Pull it very tightly. Do the same on the other side.
Leg with foot
It is also a very simple type of leg.
String the beads on either wire. For the foot use a different colour. Loop back with the same wire through the leg leaving out the foot.Pull it very tightly. If the wire begins to kink put it straight. Now, do exactly the same on the other side.
Leg with foot and toes
This type of leg is a bit more complicated than the others. However, after you’ve understood and made it, it’ll be just a routine job.
String the leg beads (usually 3) and the beads of one toe on either side of the wire. Loop back through the remaining of the toe beads leaving out the last bead. Hold the toe near to the leg and pull it tightly. Now, you’ve finished the first toe. String the beads of the second toe on the same wire. Loop back through the toe beads leaving out the first bead as before.Hold the toe near to the leg and pull it tightly. Do exactly the same with all toes. When you’ve made all of the toes, loop back through the whole leg.Pull it tightly. Do exactly the same on the other side.

You can easily use crafts as a way of spending time with your kids while having some fun, too. Regardless of what kind of art they’re doing, kids just love to express and create through art. On the other hand, not all parents like getting involved with crafts. What could be the reason? Perhaps for some parents all the mess turns them off. We’re all busy, so with some it could be a lack of time. Or… maybe it’s just a question of getting the proper tools such as left-handed scissors for those who need them. No need to make it complicated or a filled with anxiety, though. We’re going to talk about some great craft tips so you and your family will have more fun.
Where ever you’ll be crafting, you need to take measures to avoid any damage. Put newspaper down on the table and on the floor under the table and the chairs. Just that one thing alone will help prevent disasters as well as making the clean-up process faster and easier. Simple steps are also great for keeping things from getting ‘lost’ such as your kids’ left-handed scissors, as an example. If you keep the kids in your covered area, keeping track of everything and everyone should be pretty easy. It will also save you at least an hour of cleaning after the craft is finished and the kids have gone off to do something else. Whatever you’re working on, it’s best to have enough space to adequately do your crafts. You want to have enough working space. Left handed kids will especially appreciate this because using left handed scissors usually means that they are accidentally bumping into other kids who are right handed. People are happier if they have enough room to work on things, plus it is a lot easier to stay organized. It’s just like any other situation, people confined to a small space will always begin to feel a little more pressure and stress. If you have room to spread out, things will be calmer and you won’t have to worry about as many spills or accidents.
Crafts plus children plus liquids equals spills – it’s going to happen. You know with children, anything can happen; for example your left-handed daughter can be using her left-handed scissors and spills something. Stuff happens, so just stay even and relaxed, and your kids will continue to have a good time. Nobody has fun when others are upset about something minor. No big deal, grab a rag and soak up the spilled whatever, and then proceed to enjoy the day. Sure, it’s a challenge matching crafts to your kids, but with a few tries it’s possible. Depending on what you’re doing, there can be quite a bit to organize and prepare. The key to making craft time a happy time is to prepare for it. All equipment and supplies at the ready – left-handed tools (scissors) for anyone who needs them. Work inside adequate space. Be sure to have a little more than you think everyone will need. Don’t forget to be patient and relax because crafting is supposed to be fun!

Looking to get creative and have some fun with your kids during special holidays? These fun projects will have your children laughing, giggling and remembering those very special moments. Guaranteed!
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day Cards Age suitability: 6+ You will need: cardboard, a selection of suitable magazines and newspapers
Make the most of Valentine’s Day by fashioning some eccentric and original cards. To send an anonymous card, create a message of love using cut-out letters and words from newspapers and magazines and sticking them on to a red paper heart. If you would prefer to give your Valentine a clue who you are, find photos of yourself that you no longer need and cut them up to make a Picasso-style face with lips sticking out of an ear, eyes skew-whiff and an upside-down nose floating in a corner.
April Fools’ Day
Practical Joke Ideas Children all over the world love April Fool’s Day and, although the tricks are supposed to end at midday on April 1, your child may like to make the most of the only day of the year that you can be naughty and get away with it by playing tricks right up to bedtime. Here are some favourites for your children’s eyes only!
- Start at breakfast by removing the inside bag of a cereal box and swapping it with another one. Just as someone is expecting Shreddies in their bowl, they will pour out Cheerios instead.
- Offer to make a cup of coffee for someone, but only use cold water when you do.
- Before lunch, stick some Sellotape to the top and bottom of the fridge door so that it won’t open.
- Reset all the alarm clocks in the house to go off at 1.30pm. (Remember to reset them before school on Monday!)
- If dad wants to watch some sport on the TV that afternoon, be sure to remove the batteries from the remote control. Write “Happy April Fool’s Day” on a piece of paper, fold it up carefully and stuff it into the battery compartment instead.
- In France, pranksters stick paper fishes on to unsuspecting people’s backs. See if you can do the same, but with messages on. Things like “I never wash” or “Tell me I’m gorgeous”.
- Before bed, put a hairbrush, apple or something else a bit lumpy under someone’s sheet so that they will get another top surprise before the day comes to an end. Have fun!
Christmas
Shatterproof Christmas Baubles Age suitability: 4+ You will need: polystyrene balls, scraps of material, PVA glue, ribbon, thread and a pin
Buy polystyrene balls from any craft shop and decorate with fabric scraps: glue a small cloth circle on to each end, then working towards the middle, stick on overlapping strips of different materials. Finish off with a piece of ribbon around the middle and attach a loop of thread with a pin at the top. If you don’t have any material, use shiny coloured paper instead.
Celebrity Santa Age suitability: 4+ You will need: photos of celebrities, cotton-wool, cardboard, glitter, glue, scissors
It’s never too early for Celebrity Santa! Let your child search the internet for images of their favourite TV characters or sportsmen, then print them out. Cut around the figures and stick them on the front of a piece of folded card. Now give them a Santa makeover. Glue on cotton-wool beards and red hats; a touch of glitter on David Beckham’s shirt or some antlers on Bart Simpson’s skateboard will add to the disguise. Hand them out to school friends at the end of term.

It is only in recent years that the clothing industry has begun to pay equal attention to all categories of age. Although they were generally neglected in the past by clothing manufacturers, the little girl’s clothing and baby girl’s clothing sectors nowadays forms an important segment of clients in the fashion industry, enjoying an extensive and varied range of fashion appropriate for their age. The children’s industry has only recently begun to achieve good exposure and popularity, gaining a lot of ground over the past few years.
As the fashion industry was growing in popularity, more and more designers decided to focus their work exclusively on designing clothes for children and babies, in particular the little girl’s clothing sector and baby girl’s clothing sector. Soon, the offer became more and more diversified, with girl’s clothing and baby clothing gaining a lot in aspect and originality. Department stores and boutiques began to fill up with ingenious and colorful articles of clothing for children and babies, lots of shops even specialising in exclusively selling children’s and babies clothing.
In contrast to yesterday’s children’s clothing – poorly designed and, let’s face it, quite dull – today’s little girl’s clothing and baby clothing are inspiring and appealing, stimulating their imagination and building their sense of aesthetics and beauty. Ranging from dresses and baby accessorized dresses to cartoon-character costumes and even superhero outfits, girl’s clothes are nowadays created to adequately satisfy the needs and desires of the very young.
Visibly enjoying “the attention” granted to them by the fashion industry, little girls nowadays spend more and more time looking for the most interesting and imaginative clothing items they can find. Mesmerized by so many clothing models, designs and colors, many little girls can hardly decide upon a single item in particular! As soon as they step inside children’s clothing stores, children are immersed in a colorful and magnificent world, similar to the world created by toy stores. Funnily, lots of today’s children equally enjoy paying visits to both clothing stores and toy stores – revealing that the young generations interest towards clothing, and thus their inclination towards originality, aesthetics and sense of beauty.
Seen through the perspective of their prices in general, girls clothing and baby girls clothing have lately become increasingly more affordable. While a few years ago parents had to spend a small fortune to offer their children good-quality garments, nowadays they can buy appropriate clothing for considerably smaller sums of money. Several major factors that have led to the reduction of children’s fashion prices are: substantial clothes imports, the appearance of many discount-shops on the market and the equal distribution of the merchandise between department stores and boutiques.
